SSFS "thrilled" with Ofsted report

9th December 2019
Ofsted have deemed that Seaton Sluice First School continues to be a 'good' school - to the delight of Headteacher Amanda Bennett and the school's staff.
SSFS were subject to a 'section 8' inspection two weeks ago. This means that a school already judged to be 'good' will be inspected to confirm that they remain at that standard.
Inspector Phil Scott, who visited SSFS on November 26th and November 27th was extremely complimentary about the school and its staff, commenting that the school was in a "very strong position" and expressed how much he liked SSFS.
The full Ofsted report, which can be downloaded below, was particularly complimentary about the school's musical provision and its use of music and singing across the school.
It said: "Pupils sing at every opportunity. Music is the bedrock on which the school is built."
The report also highlighted the excellent provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), commenting that pupils were supported "extremely well".
The delivery of maths throughout the school was praised in the report and the teaching of phonics was described as "effective", adding: "Leaders have a clear commitment to making pupils' early reading skills even better."
The report also included comments from pupils, one of whom described being at SSFS as "joyful".
Headteacher Mrs Bennett said she was delighted with the outcome of the inspection: "We are thrilled that Seaton Sluice First School continues to be a 'good' school. It really is a fantastic result and the report was a pleasure to read.
"It highlights the areas in which we are doing very well and gives us some areas in which to improve."
She continued: "However, the lovely comments made by the Inspector only validates what we as staff already know, that this is a wonderful school with children and staff who work hard every day to make this a happy, caring environment for the best possible learning to take place.
"And of course, we couldn't do it without the fantastic and continued support of parents and carers."
