Supporting Learning at Home
Reading
Reading is a vital skill for children and one of our aims in Year 1 is to increase reading confidence and fluency.
Our Bug Club online reading system is perfect for supporting reading at home. Please ensure you read with your child every day and complete an entry in their reading record.
Excellent sites for practising phonics/reading through games are Phonics Play and Phonics Bloom. Get in touch via Class Dojo if you are unsure which phase your child is working on.
Mr T's Phonics videos may also help some children consolidate their learning.
Please find links to these sites below.
Maths
As a school we follow the White Rose Maths Small Steps. In year 1, children learn the key skills that form the basis of their maths education, including place value, counting, money and problem solving. Practising these skills at home can be a great way to boost your child’s confidence and complement what they learn in the classroom.

Make the most of everyday tasks, such as playing board games, card games, baking and treasure hunts. There are also lots of other great websites to support your child's mathematical development.
