Pebble Class

Welcome to our Pebble Class learning hub!

Meet the team

Class Teacher - Miss Johnson

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Reynard, Ms Buglass and Mrs Cummings

Thank you for visiting our class page. Here you will find key information about our learning, our newsletters and photos showing what we have been busy doing.

Key Information

Timings
Start of the day: The gates will be open between 8.45am and 9am for your child to be dropped off at The Lighthouse door. Some children will enter school at the main entrance depending on circumstances.
End of the day: The gate will open at 3pm. Pebble class will be picked up from the green gates at the Lighthouse yard.

P.E.
In the Lighthouse, we do P.E. on a Thursday. Please can you ensure your child has a named P.E. kit to leave in school so we can practise encourage developing their own self care skills such as dressing and un-dressing independently. These kits will be sent home every half term to be washed. We also have Fit Friday every week where your child should come into school wearing a P.E. kit.

Class Dojo
In the Lighthouse, our key daily communication is done through class dojo. Please ensure these are filled in and sent into school every day.

By using Dojo it will enable us to spend more quality time with the children. We will aim to have your child's day reported back to you by 3:30pm.

Any messages relating to their day will be answered by staff up until 4:00pm. Any messages thereafter will be replied to the following morning or answered face-to-face during drop off.

You can communicate your child's evening/morning to staff using the same method, ClassDojo messaging. We will not be available to respond to messages throughout the day or on an evening/weekend. Any immediate queries or concerns should be directed to either the Class Teachers or Katie Walsh via phone call or email. We will also be using Class Dojo to post pictures of all the incredible learning we have been completing throughout the year!

Stay and Play sessions

As an alternative to Achievers Assembly, which many of our children can find busy and overwhelming, we will be offering a 'Stay and Play' afternoon once every half term. Parents and carers are invited into the Lighthouse to participate in activities linked to their child's learning, as well as celebrating and sharing individual achievements from that half term.

Our first 'Stay and Play' session will take place on Friday the 9th of February 2:15pm - 3:00pm.

Toileting, Changes of Clothes and Messy Play
Please could all children bring in a change of clothes including underwear, socks, trousers/ leggings and a t shirt/ polo shirt which can be stored in their locker in school. This is not just for toileting accidents but also for messy/ water play. It would also be great if your child could bring in a pair of wellies to store in school too as the school field can become quite muddy. If your child wears nappies, please could you send some nappies and wipes into school.

In Pebble Class, children learn through both play-based activities which have been planned to capture the interest of the children alongside developing their cognitive, social and motor skills. During an average day, the children take part in a combination of individual teaching sessions, small group adult led sessions and periods of child-initiated time where they are supported by staff.

The Lighthouse children each follow a bespoke curriculum in line with both the National Curriculum and Early Years Curriculum, depending on their age and developmental stage. Extra opportunities for developing their life skills are built into their learning journey and individual targets are worked towards from the children’s Education, Health and Care Plans. When appropriate, children in the Lighthouse have regular opportunities to interact and learn alongside their peers within a mainstream class.

Our Play Therapist Rachael works alongside the children and staff on a weekly basis and we receive regular support and advice from an Occupational Therapist and from a Speech and Language Therapist.

In Pebble Class, we aim to create an environment which is caring, nurturing and supportive. We strive to develop the children’s confidence and independence and we love celebrating every small step of success and progress.
