At Seaton Sluice First School, we are committed to fostering a lifelong love for literacy by equipping our children with strong reading and writing skills from the very start of their educational journey. In Phonics, we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, a robust and systematic synthetic phonics programme that provides our pupils with a consistent, high-quality foundation for early reading and spelling. As children progress into Writing, we follow the United Curriculum, which delivers a rich, sequential pathway that builds vocabulary, grammar, and creative expression across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. To ensure our older pupils continue to flourish as independent readers, Reading is assessed in Key Stage 2 using Accelerated Reader. This digital system helps us closely track comprehension, celebrate reading achievements, and guide children toward books that perfectly match and gently challenge their reading abilities.
