Year 3

Welcome to Year 3 - White Class!

Thank you for visiting our learning hub! Here you can find all the information you need for your children during their time in Year 3, we hope you find it useful.

Mrs Williamson is our teacher in Year 3, apart from a Monday afternoon when we learn RE and PE with Miss McNab and Wednesday afternoon when we learn Music and Computing with Mr Olatunji.

Mrs Fahim is our teaching assistant and she will support our learning every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

To learn more about we will be focusing on this half term, please have a look at our half-term curriculum webs!

Important Information:

PE days: PE is taught on Mondays and Fridays. Children should come to school dressed for PE on both days. Pupils should wear school PE kit and appropriate footwear.

We encourage all children to bring a water bottle to school every day.

Reading: Please make sure that reading records come to school each day.

Spelling test: Your child's spellings are accessed via Spelling Shed and also sent home via paper copies. These will be set each Monday and tested the following week. Children accessing phonics with Mrs Fahim will have different spellings set on Wednesday and be tested on Monday.

Times Tables: We spend a lot of time working on times tables in Year 3. We encourage all children to access their TTRockstars accounts at home and practise when they can! All logins are still valid but copies of their log in details can be sent home if required.

During their time in Year 3, we recap those tables learned in Year 2 (2X, 5X and 10X) and learn some new, trickier tables which you may wish to practice at home (3X, 4X, 8X).

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs Williamson via the school office or catch us at the end of the school day.
Children became designers as they brought to life their Desk Tidy plans with their recycled items. Over this half term children have developed key skills such as their IT skills and research to identify key features of existing products they liked and disliked, they have drawn sketches of initial ideas which they then developed into a final design and decorated. From the start of the process right to the end children have worked extremely hard to research and gather ideas, plan and use new terminology when making their desk tidies.

Year 3 have loved their topic on Roman Britain! Children designed their own shields and acted out a real Roman battle with Testudo formation. They also wrote their own kennings about Roman soldiers and Celtic warrior, Boudicca!
Year 3 went to Vindolanda Roman Fort and Museum! It was a beautiful, sunny day in Hexham and we were lucky to see so many wonderful artefacts like Roman coins and weapons, shoes and writing tablets. We spoke to a real archaeologist who had visited the site for 20 years and we were able to see what Hadrian's Wall once looked like thousands of years ago!
To start our Roman topic we created a human time line of key events. We also learnt about archaeology and how it gives us a window to the past. We became archaeologists and 'excavated' Roman artefacts - but some parts were missing so we had to draw what we thought were the missing parts to create a whole picture.
Thanks to the wonderful Mr Bayles, Year 3 have planted their own bulbs ready to bloom in summer! They impressed Mr Bayles with their knowledge of what plants need to survive.
We had a great time designing and making our own pizzas for Design and Technology!
We have learnt all about plants this term! We grew our own plants in different conditions (without sunlight, or water, or warmth). We learnt about how water is transported and all about pollination by creating our own pollinators and acting out the process!
