At Seaton Sluice First School, our Design & Technology (D&T) curriculum encourages children to become creative, practical problem solvers who can think resourcefully to design and make products that solve real-life problems. To ensure a highly rigorous and inspiring technical education, we follow the United Curriculum across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
The United Curriculum provides a beautifully structured, progressive pathway where our pupils engage in the core stages of the design process: designing, making, evaluating, and technical knowledge. Through hands-on projects, children learn to handle materials and tools with increasing precision while exploring mechanics, structures, and textiles.
Crucially, Cooking and Nutrition is embedded as a vital part of our D&T curriculum.
Following the United Curriculum framework, children develop crucial life skills by learning how to cook a variety of nutritious dishes, understand the principles of a healthy diet, and discover where food comes from. This experiential approach teaches children how to work safely and hygienically, fostering a lifelong appreciation for food, health, and practical creativity.
